Learn how to manage your Premium subscription, update payment details, troubleshoot billing problems, and understand what happens if Premium ends.
Manage your subscription
Update your payment method, change your plan, or cancel your Premium subscription.
View subscription details
On web:
- Go to Settings → Subscription (or Account)
- View your current plan, billing cycle, and next payment date
On mobile:
- Tap Settings tab
- Tap Subscription or Account
- View your subscription details
Update payment method
- Go to Settings → Subscription
- Click/tap Update Payment Method
- Enter new credit card details
- Save changes
- Future payments will use the new card
Cancel your subscription
- Go to Settings → Subscription
- Click/tap Cancel Subscription or Manage Subscription
- Follow the prompts to confirm cancellation
- Your Premium features remain active until the end of your current billing period
- After that, you'll revert to the Free plan
Note: Canceling doesn't delete your account or recipes. See What happens when Premium ends below.
Reactivate a canceled subscription
If you previously canceled:
- Go to Settings → Subscription
- Click/tap Upgrade to Premium or Reactivate
- Enter payment details
- Your Premium features are restored immediately
Tips
- You're billed monthly or annually depending on your chosen plan
- Canceling stops future charges but you keep Premium until the period ends
- If you cancel by accident, you can reactivate anytime
Troubleshoot billing issues
Fix common subscription and payment problems.
Common billing issues
Payment failed
Why it happens: Card declined, expired, or insufficient funds.
Solution:
- Check that your card details are correct and up-to-date
- Make sure the card has sufficient funds
- Contact your bank if the card should work but doesn't
- Try a different payment method
- Go to Settings → Subscription → Update Payment Method
Charged twice
Why it happens: Rare billing system error or accidental double subscription.
Solution:
- Check your subscription settings to see if there are duplicate subscriptions
- If you see a duplicate charge, contact support with:
- Your email address
- Transaction dates and amounts
- Screenshots if possible
- We'll investigate and issue a refund if warranted
Subscription shows as canceled but I'm still being charged
Why it happens: Cancellation may not have processed, or there's a timing issue.
Solution:
- Go to Settings → Subscription and verify status
- If it says "Active" but you tried to cancel, cancel again
- If charges continue after cancellation period ends, contact support
Can't update payment method
Why it happens: Browser issue, expired session, or technical problem.
Solution:
- Refresh the page and try again
- Try a different browser
- Log out and log back in
- Make sure you have a stable internet connection
- If still stuck, contact support
Subscription not activating after payment
Why it happens: Payment processing delay.
Solution:
- Wait 5-10 minutes and refresh the page
- Log out and log back in
- Check your email for a confirmation
- If still not active after 30 minutes, contact support
Want a refund
Why it happens: Not satisfied with Premium, or billing error.
Solution:
- Contact support with your refund request
- Explain the reason (helps us improve)
- We'll review your request and respond within 2-3 business days

- Your account email
- Description of the issue
- Any error messages you see
- Screenshots (if applicable)
What happens when Premium ends
Understand what changes when your Premium subscription expires or is canceled.
When Premium ends
Your Premium subscription ends when:
- You cancel and the current billing period expires
- Your payment fails and isn't updated
- You choose not to renew
What you keep
- All your recipes — Nothing is deleted
- Your grocery lists — All items remain
- Your meal plans — All planned meals stay
- Recipe photos — Photos under the Free storage limit (25 MB) remain
- Favorites and ratings — All preserved
What changes
Recipe limits:
- You can keep all existing recipes, but can't add new ones if you have more than 10
- Free accounts are limited to 10 recipes total
- To add new recipes, you'd need to delete some or upgrade back to Premium
Storage limits:
- Storage drops from 1 GB to 25 MB
- Existing photos over the limit remain, but you can't add new photos until you're under 25 MB
- Consider deleting unused recipe photos
Feature access:
- Smart Merge — No longer available (reverts to Basic Merge)
- Multiple grocery lists — Can only use one default list
- Archive feature — Archived recipes become visible again in your main list
- Bulk import — Cannot import from Paprika/Mela
- Optimize selected items — Feature disabled
AI import limits:
- Drop from 200/month to 10/month
- If you've already used more than 10 this month, you'll need to wait until next month
How to avoid interruption
If you want to keep Premium:
- Make sure your payment method is up-to-date
- Check Settings → Subscription to verify auto-renewal is ON
- Update your card before it expires
- Watch for payment failure emails from Spiceful
Returning to Premium
You can upgrade back to Premium anytime:
- Go to Settings → Subscription
- Click Upgrade to Premium
- Enter payment details
- All Premium features are restored immediately
