Storage limits and usage

Understand your image storage quota and how to manage it.

What you can do

Learn about your storage limits and how to check or reduce your usage.

Storage limits by tier

TierImage Storage
Free25 MB
Premium1 GB

Storage is used by recipe images—the photos you upload to your recipes.

How much storage do images use?

Typical recipe photos:

  • Small/compressed: 100–300 KB
  • Medium quality: 300 KB–1 MB
  • High resolution: 1–3 MB

Rough estimate:

  • Free (25 MB): ~25–100 recipe photos
  • Premium (1 GB): ~1,000+ recipe photos

Check your storage usage

On web

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Find Current Usage section.
  3. Storage shows your usage (e.g., "18 MB / 25 MB").

On mobile

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. View storage under your subscription status.

What counts toward storage

Counts:

  • Recipe main images (the hero photo)
  • Step-by-step images (if you add photos to individual steps)

Doesn't count:

  • Recipe text (title, ingredients, steps, notes)
  • Grocery lists
  • Meal plans
  • Profile avatar

What happens when you reach the limit

When you hit your storage limit:

  • You can't upload new images.
  • Existing images are preserved—nothing is deleted.
  • You'll see a "Storage limit reached" message when trying to upload.

Solutions:

  1. Delete images from recipes you don't need.
  2. Upgrade to Premium for 1 GB storage.

Reduce storage usage

Delete recipe images

On web

  1. Open a recipe.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Click the X or remove button on the image.
  4. Click Save Changes.

On mobile

Recipe images can be removed by editing the recipe on the web app.

Delete entire recipes

Deleting a recipe also deletes its images, freeing up storage.

  1. Open the recipe.
  2. Click/tap Delete.
  3. Confirm deletion.

Tips

  • Not every recipe needs a photo. Save storage for your favorites.
  • Resize large photos before uploading (1–2 MB is usually sufficient quality).
  • If you import recipes from URLs, the imported images count toward your storage.

Troubleshooting

Storage shows usage but I don't have many images

  • Imported recipes may include images you didn't notice.
  • Check recipes you imported for attached photos.

Deleted images but storage didn't decrease

  • Storage usage updates in real-time. Try refreshing the Settings page.
  • If it still seems wrong, contact support.
