Optimize selected items (premium)
Manually select specific grocery items and run Smart Merge on just those items—with a preview before applying.
What you can do
Instead of merging your entire list, select 2 or more items and run Smart Merge on just those. You'll see a preview of what will be combined before confirming.
This feature requires Premium.
When you'd use this
- You notice a few items that should be combined but weren't.
- You want to merge specific items without affecting the rest of your list.
- You want to preview changes before applying them.
Step-by-step instructions
On web
- Go to your Groceries page.
- Enter selection mode:
- Click the checkbox next to items you want to merge.
- Select at least 2 items.
- Click Optimize selected items (appears when items are selected).
- A modal shows a preview:
- Items that will be merged are shown grouped.
- Items that won't merge stay separate.
- Review the preview:
- If it looks right, click Apply optimization.
- If you want to cancel, click Cancel.
- The merged items appear in your list.
On mobile
- Go to the Grocery tab.
- Tap Merge to enter selection mode.
- Tap items to select them (at least 2).
- Tap Merge (X) where X is the number of selected items.
- Review the preview in the modal.
- Tap Apply optimization to confirm, or Cancel to go back.
What the preview shows
The preview displays how your selected items would look after Smart Merge:
Example:
- Selected: "1 egg", "2 egg yolks", "1 cucumber"
- Preview shows:
- "3 eggs" (eggs were merged)
- "1 cucumber" (no match, stays separate)
If no optimizations are possible, you'll see:
"No optimizations found for these items."
Tips
- Use this when automatic Smart Merge missed something you want combined.
- The preview lets you confirm before making changes—nothing happens until you click Apply.
- This feature works even if you have Smart Merge set to Automatic mode.
Troubleshooting
"Premium required" message

"Select 2+ items" message

"No optimizations found"
