Connect your AI app to Spiceful

Add Spiceful to Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP app, choose permissions, and fix expired or disconnected connections.

Spiceful works with AI apps that support remote MCP servers (often called custom connectors). Once connected, your AI app can search your recipes, save new ones, plan meals and update your grocery lists, with the permissions you choose. See what you can do with it.

Add Spiceful to your AI app

You start the connection from the AI app, not from Spiceful. You don't need an API key or to download anything. You'll need the Spiceful MCP server URL:

https://www.getspiceful.com/mcp

You can also copy it from Settings → Connected AI apps in Spiceful.

Claude

Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan. On Team or Enterprise, an owner may need to allow them first.

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors
  2. Choose Add custom connector
  3. Name it Spiceful and paste the Spiceful MCP server URL. Leave the advanced OAuth fields empty
  4. Select Add, then Connect. A Spiceful page opens: sign in, choose what Claude can do, and select Allow
  5. In a chat, turn on the Spiceful connector from the tools menu and ask away

ChatGPT

Adding your own app depends on your ChatGPT plan and settings. Workspace admins can restrict it.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors
  2. Under Advanced settings, turn on developer mode if your plan requires it for custom apps
  3. Choose Create (or Add app), name it Spiceful, paste the Spiceful MCP server URL, and pick OAuth for authentication
  4. Save, then Connect. A Spiceful page opens: sign in, choose what ChatGPT can do, and select Allow
  5. In a chat, add Spiceful from the tools menu and ask away

Other MCP apps

Spiceful works with apps that support remote MCP servers over HTTPS with OAuth sign-in.

  1. Find where your app adds a remote (HTTP) MCP server or custom connector
  2. Paste the Spiceful MCP server URL. The app signs you in, so you don't need an API key
  3. When the Spiceful page opens, sign in, choose permissions and select Allow

AI apps change their menus from time to time. If a step doesn't match what you see, check the app's own help for "custom connectors" or "MCP".

Signing in and choosing permissions

When the AI app connects, a Spiceful page opens. Sign in with the account you want to use (email, magic link or Google), check which app is asking, and choose:

  • View only: look things up. Nothing in Spiceful changes
  • View and edit: look things up, add recipes, plan meals and update lists. No deleting
  • View, edit and delete: everything above, plus deleting after a preview
  • Get public recipe links: a separate checkbox, off unless you tick it. Anyone with a recipe's public link can view that recipe

Apps Spiceful can confirm are marked Verified app. Anything else shows as an unverified custom app, so only allow it if you added it yourself. Choose Cancel and nothing is shared.

Changes, deletes and approvals

Your AI app may ask you to approve changes before it makes them. Some changes always happen in two steps: the app first gets a preview of exactly what would change, then confirms it. These are:

  • Deleting recipes, lists or several items
  • Clearing a list
  • Replacing planned meals
  • Combining groceries

Changes appear in the Spiceful app right away.

Plan limits

Your usual plan limits apply:

  • Imports that use Spiceful's AI count toward your monthly AI imports (Free: 10/month, Premium: 200/month). A failed import is given back
  • Saving a recipe your AI app wrote counts as a recipe but not as an AI import
  • Free accounts have one grocery list and can plan 7 days ahead. Premium can plan 90 days ahead and use multiple lists

See Free vs Premium for everything that's included.

Imports and photos

  • Links and pasted text work from any AI app. Imports come back as a draft for you to check before saving
  • For a photo, the AI app can pass a public image link. If it can't send the photo itself, it gives you an upload link: open it while signed in to Spiceful and choose the photo
  • Instagram posts and Paprika or Mela archives import in the Spiceful app
  • Paywalled or blocked pages can't be imported. Paste the recipe text instead

Expired or disconnected

A connection renews itself automatically while it's being used. If it isn't used for 30 days, or after six months, it expires and the app will ask you to sign in again.

Removing Spiceful inside your AI app doesn't tell Spiceful. That connection simply stops being used and expires.

Disconnect, reduce access or reconnect

On web:

  1. Go to Settings → Connected AI apps
  2. Select the app to see what it can do and its recent activity
  3. Under What it can do, untick permissions and choose Save reduced access, or choose Disconnect to remove the app. Disconnect all on the list removes every app

On mobile:

  1. Open the Settings tab
  2. Tap Connected AI apps
  3. Tap the app, then reduce its access or disconnect it

Reduced access applies on the app's next request. Your recipes, lists and plans stay as they are. To give an app more access, remove Spiceful in the app and connect again.

Privacy

Whatever your AI app reads from Spiceful is sent to that app, and its own privacy policy and data settings apply there. Spiceful keeps a 90-day log of what each connection did (the kind of action and when, not your recipes or what you asked) so you can see it in Settings. Spiceful can't see your conversations. Read our privacy policy for details.
